PORCELAIN ART
The art of china painting goes back to Biblical times and earthen vessels. In the early centuries the Chinese discovered a mineral, which turned the clay blue in the firing process. Using this new technique dynasties and royal families developed their own patterns. Artists painted and decorated china by hand as more and more beautiful colors and ideas were developed. Dining from exquisite china was more than a social event, but an everyday occurrence in some households. Most castles, palaces and museums still exhibit treasured hand painted china from long ago.
On our shelves at home or in a very visible place are some beautifully painted pieces of china handed down from generation to generation. There is usually a charming story associated with each piece.
So as "Porcelain art", as it is now being called, is continued today it signifies love and pride. Porcelain artists are fascinated by learning and creating new procedures and techniques. |
